In pre-celebration of (American) Pi Day

Today is March 1. You get pi to 2 digits. I dub this day pseudo pi day. It is also the release of the air level results (Haven't got it yet, Yikes!)

Pi day occurs at the 14th of March every year. This obviously is some American idea cos' you use the US format of mm/dd. If you used the European format of dd/mm, you'll have to hold it on 31 April. Of course this means that you get something like 31/04, which is not pi, so you have to cheat and use 31/4, but then again, 03/14 is not really pi either... so...

And you only get 3 digits... The next time you get more than 3 digits is in 2015, assuming you use the mm/dd/yy format (that caused everyone to fear the Y2K bug... remember). That's just 9 years from now... W00t! This occurs every 100 years or so, so chances are, it would occur once in your lifetime (unless you're unlucky enough to be born shortly after, hah!). Thus, I shall not commit suicide in event of bad results or else I shall not be able to wake up that fine day, given that anything more substantial would require me to travel back in time to 3/14/1592...

Of course, that is if you're using a Gregorian Calender. Pi day would fall on a different day this year if you were using anything else. If you were using the Julian Calender, you have to wait 'til 27 March on the Gregorian Calender. If you were using the Hebrew Calender, you need to wait for 10 June. Islamic - 31 March. Persian - May 22... And so on.

Despite all this, I am not a geek, OK? I don't do Soduku for one... I only wonder what is the minimum number of blanks required in a (standard) Soduku puzzle to ensure that there exists a unique solution. I also wonder why I wonder that. And that's about it.

In other news, some Physicist's algorithm simplifies biological imaging -- and also solves Sudoku puzzles.

I also wonder how my initial wonder impacts that algorithm :p...
